Hello,
I built GNOME 0.99 on Monday (now have 0.99.2 libs and core), and found
a couple of major problems. Has anyone else tried GNOME on alpha? Are
these Alpha-specific problems? Or just specific to my setup?
To recap my Tuesday evening message (cc'd to this list):
* Three background tasks (gnome-name-service, gnome-session and gmc)
and every GNOME app each take a full load point even when idle,
slowing down the system enormously.
* The panel applets and "About GNOME" only update on mouse events
(like, including the clock!).
I have all of the latest releases, without anything from cvs, built from
source tarballs.
These problems, IMHO, should be show stoppers for the 1.0 release- if
they are real problems. So, anyone else seen these?
Aside from these problems, everything built and ran beautifully. Very
beautifully- my favorite theme is Marble. :-) But since I am doing
heavy numerical work, it really is impossible to have these idle apps
burning up so much CPU time, so I've stopped running GNOME- until the
next release. :-(
Thanks,
