I just got my SX164 motherboard yesterday & had the same problem as
that described below. No beep, no video. After an hour of swapping
video cards and RAM without success, I powered the system up & left it
on for several minutes even though nothing seemed to be happenning. I
finally saw some diagnostic messages on the screen which said that the
system was not able to detect the keyboard & it was switching to COM1.
Out of desperation, I swapped the keyboard & mouse connectors & voila!
It booted up fine. Seems like the Digital's manual for the SX164 has
some inaccuracies. It listed the keyboard connector as the top
connector and the mouse connector as the bottom connector in the
keyboard/mouse connector block. However, it is really the other way
round.
Don't know if the PC64 boards have the same problem in the
documentation though.....

I had this problem when I got my alpha, too (it's a different one,
though). After fooling around, I found out I had the keyboard and
mouse
in the wrong holes (mouse in keyboard hole, and vice-versa). Check
that
before you get a new card ;)
