You will love this one.

Since raid1 is mirroring and the raid info is at the back of the partition
you can boot using either one of the disks and then mount the root using
md0. There is no problems with milo writing to the drives so there is no
fear of them getting out of sync.

Here is whar I use on one of our systems configured this way.

bootdevice=sda1 bootfile=/vmlinux.gz root=/dev/md0 panic=60
