redhat 60 and ld

I just did a fresh install of 6.0 on a pc164. 
Found a funny problem... the default installation didn't include /lib in
ld.so.conf. I had thought that that was compiled into /lib by default, but 
until I added that line to ld.so.conf, nothing compiled. I was wondering
if this was a fluke that happened to me, or if this was standard for the
6.0 install. If it was, that's a big thing to miss.
