There is NO WAY to disable the builtin serial ports COM1 and COM2. Your
problems are most likely related to multiple serial chips responding to the
same addresses.

I use COM3 and IRQ 5, and it works fine. The 10 second pause is a timeout
value, which indicates you're not taking interrupts. Did you do a "setserial"
to set the IRQ of COM3 appropriately?  You prolly have to set the jumpers on
the card so that it DOES NOT do PnP, but has a fixed COM port and IRQ.
