We've had good luck with the very inexpensive Tulip based NetGear
card (even at 100Mbits/Full duplex) ~ $30 a card. Everytime we
order a DE500 we keep getting the 21143-PC Tulip chip with does
not work very well for us. The 3Com cards are also good.
