WASHINGTON (AP) - In the weeks before the start of the Microsoft Corp.
(Nasdaq:MSFT - news) antitrust trial, the company's lawyer elicited a
surprisingly candid admission from the government's top economics expert.
Microsoft lawyer Michael Lacovara challenged economist Franklin Fisher last
September over claims that the company held monopoly power because its
Windows software was effectively the only viable operating system for
computers. Weren't there others?
``Apple, Unix,'' Fisher answered. ``There are a couple of other minor ones.
Is Linux an operating system? I can't remember.''
