Regarding beta-testing of redhat releases:
Redhat "beta-tests" their stuff through the rawhide distribution.
It's a different concept from most commercial enterprises, since there
really isn't an overall quality control or aesthetic appeal factor
in the beta testing--it's almost all functionality testing.  Redhat
doesn't focus as much on ease-of-use as many software companies do these
days.  Perhaps this is because they are more of a distributer than
a producer.
