HELP -- RH6.0 and RH5.2 won't install on genric AlphaServer 800!

Any help would be deeply appreciation. I have spent a week trying so
far and am about to through in the towel and load TRU64 if I can't get
this thing booted.
My problems are identical to another case I saw on usenet, hence I will
repeat that posting with 
minor modifications:

I am attempting to put RedHat Linux 6.0 onto a Alpha Server 800 5/500.

 I have created two floppy disks of 'generic.img' & 'ramdisk.img'.
 
 At the SRM prompt >> I type
 
 boot dva0 -file cmlinux.gz -flags "root=/dev/fd0 loadramdisk=1"
 
 The bootstrap loader starts and loads the kernel.
 
 I then get the prompt
 
 VFS: Insert root floppy and press ENTER
 
 I insert my 'ramdisk.img' disk and get the following:-
 
 aboot ok, now starting the kernel
 
 halted CPU 0
 
 halt code 5
 
 HALT instruction exectued
 PC = fffffc00003c10088
