glibc2.1 on alpha

I believe that intel is OK, but my alpha is pretty important, so I would
like to hear from some alpha owners who have tried this. Is it safe to
upgrade glibc-2.0.7 to glibc-2.1.1? I have a RedHat 5.2 installation,
along with various third party packages. I'm running kernel 2.2.9.
At issue for me is whether an upgrade (rpm -Uvh) to glibc-2.1 will
leave 2.0 libraries, or install compatibility so files. And most
importantly, do they *work* on the alpha.
