My PAS16 hisses and hums slightly. My AWE64 Gold sounds beautiful. 

Hmm.. unless we each have a broken card, respectively, maybe our
problem is EMI from other devices in the system. 

I have both cards in the same machine, actually .. I was experimenting
with a pile of soundcards, trying to get a PSS based card to work along
with any other card, and ended up leaving these two in. I can't get my PSS
card to work with the 2.2 kernel reliably .. worked under 2.0 though. 

All I want from the PSS card is the programmable DSP ..
