Powerstorm console goes blank during RH install

I am trying to install RH 6.0 on an ES40 with Powerstorm 3D30 graphics.
I do not care about X, but my problem is that the console video
goes blank (with the LED on the monitor blinking, probably meaning
no video signal) just after inserting the Ramdisk floppy.

Before I bother to retry with a serial console, is there any known
trick to get around this problem?  After all, the system booted
from the floppy and I read all the initial diagnostics from the
screen, so a VGA driver for this board must exist!
