idle X takes up lots of cpu cycles

i ran gtop and oon my idle aplha X took 10% of the cpu

on my idle intel it took 0.6% of teh cpu.

10% of the cpu being taken by an idle proces seemns large to me. Anyone
else see this with gtop???
