Problems with gtk+ on RH6

Greetings,

I've noticed that applications which use gtk+ do not have their widgets
displayed properly on my RH6/AXP system.  mozilla and xmms are two
examples.  The most notable symptom is that text in the menus and buttons
is placed too far left and above center, making it illegible as the first
character (or two) is clipped off.  I have the latest glib and gtk+ updates
from updates.redhat.com.

Any ideas?
