RE: Jensen Redhat Install

Tom,

Just a couple useful addendum to your website. You can reboot your
system from SRM to ARC by setting os_type to "nt" and hitting
CTRL-P. It will save wear and tear on your hardware. :-)

Also, you do not need the EISA Configuration Utility (ECU) disk at all
for Linux. This sets up EISA for NT. You will get startup warnings
in ARC but otherwise things will be fine.

I've also seen confusion over what value to set for FLOPPY. To avoid
this confusion, go into "Set default configuration..." menu and set the
type there. You won't have to remember what value to put in that way.
When you do this, save it back to NVRAM. You'll need to do this each
time you boot into ARC since it resets it back to 2.88MB each time.

That being said, I've never been able to get Linux installed on a Jensen.
Please let this list know if you get it going. I've yet to know of anyone
getting a clean install since 1995, so maybe it's time to update the
install instructions. Lots of Jensens are flooding the marketplace now
and with NT going away we need a reproducable method to do this.

Michael

I did write them, but you are correct that they do not work.. completely.
Those instructions will get aboot to start on your machine, and will allow
you to start vmlinux.gz from aboot. Unfortunately, on my machine, the
kernel
boot dies just after detecting the hardware. The last message printed is
"starting kswapd".

Yes, it is RH 6.0

If you can get the kernel to boot past the "starting kswapd" point and can
get the actual install to start, I've got a list of people who would like to
know how.
