mp3 encoder

I'm looking for an mp3 encoder which compiles on the alpha, I've got
everything else working (cdparanoia, mpg123 running through a soundblaster
16) but the only encoder I get (bladeenc) doesn't seem to work (complains
that .wav files end unexpectedly).

Oh, and what is the problem with the alphalinux web site and NS3.0?  I
just get the page up and nothing else works, even scrolling the screen
it just goes black.
