See my answer below to a recent similar request.

In the mean time, I've found an URL with further infos
on Installation issues on Linux on Alpha:

but with no solution to our problem.

Once more: please register your problem and make them
aware that all A1000[A] owners have a problem installing
RH6.0 should you have an official copy of RedHat Linux 6.0
(probably very unlikely .. ;-)

Hi,

there is a problem booting the 2.2 kernel on an
AlphaServer 1000[A] EV4/5 systems.

According to thread "1000A 4/266" from Aug. 25 in this
list RedHat is aware of the problem and is working
on a workaround.

If you have an official copy including installation support,
maybe registering a support request against this would
speed things up. Maybe if we are many asking, it makes
a difference ... ;-)
