Wes,

This is true, but after many years of working with circuitry,
I would suggest that the common red rubber eraser on a lead
pencil is not a good choice.  The white vinyl (I think) eraser
sticks that go in a holder, as used for drafting, are far better.
They very tenaciously grab the foreign matter while not abrading
the contact surface anywhere near as badly as ordinarty erasers.
