mpg123 or xmms and RH6.1 on AS200

Hello,

I am having problems running xmms or mpg123 on my AlphaStation 255 under
redhat 6.1.

mpg123 makes sounds like it is underwater and prints out heaps of errors like
      mpg123: Can't rewind stream by X bits!  where X changes.

xmms plays about 1 second of audio (which sounds OK) and then dies saying
      Floating point exception

This is with the standard sound card.

Can anyone help?
