Greetings,
I'm having some trouble installing RH Linux 6.0 on a DEC Alpha Station 255
and I need some insights.
Background:
1. I've updated the Alpha bios to version 5.68.
2. I've modified the OS Selection Setup in the bios to use linload.exe as
the boot file and the floppy drive as the boot location.
3. I've created an MSDOS Milo boot disk with linload.exe and the Avanti
Milo image.
My plan was to load the generic.gz kernel image from the Linux CD after I
boot into Milo.
Currently the boot disk allows me to successfully boot into Milo. At the
Milo prompt I issue the following commands:
show (to initialize the CDROM device)
boot sr0:kernels/generic.gz root=/dev/scd0
This results in the following errors:
sr_photocd: ioctl error (SONY/PIONEER): 0x1
sr_photocd: ioctl error (SONY/PIONEER): 0x1
sr_photocd: ioctl error (SONY/PIONEER): 0x1
sr_photocd: ioctl error (SONY/PIONEER): 0x1
followed by various boot messages about finding the hard drives, mouse,
video etc.
and then the boot process halts on:
Warning: unable to open an initial console
Any ideas would be most welcome!
Regards,
Pat
