You compiled a kernel without aliasing support, and linuxconf is using
a not-so-great method of detecting aliases. Either compile the kernel with
aliasing support, or remove/comment out the linuxconf-specific portions
of ifup-aliases. A later linuxconf may have this fixed, as well.
