Which version of enlightenment are you using?  You might try ctrl-alt-a,
which toggled all icons/window bars/etc in 0.14 and 0.15.

In 0.16, just sit on the root window for a few seconds and you'll get a
funky "tooltip" cloud telling you what all of the buttons mean, you probably
want the right button menu.
