Large disks

Does anyone have any experience of using the following disk under linux/alpha? I assume in principle it should work.

Seagate Barracuda
Ultra Wide / LVD disk, 50 GB., 3.5 inch 7200 rpm.

Also does anyone know what the LVD means?
