Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the source has been released
at all. I think the reasoning is that, opening the source *during* the
execution of the experiment may make data subject to scrutiny. If this
were to be open sourced I would think the process would have to be open
for a while, hashed (or hacked) over, then closed to maintain the
standards set. Then execute the experiment. 

I would not argue that opening the source would lead to better data
rates etc. Possibly even more accurate results.
