´m having the same problem on my alpha (axppci33),
using the same with RH6 on an pent500 is giving no problem at all

you may find of use.

This is not necessarily an Alpha problem; several mp3's will produce
a similar error (the '40 bits' portion varies greatly, of course)
under both Linux/x86 and Linux/axp. I imagine it has something to do
with the alignment of the planets and the encoding package used.

Many programs do compile fine. Is there one in particular you wanted
