Hi,
I have recently put my DEC Alpha up and running with RedHat 6.1 (Cartman).
After some playing around I decided I need to have networking facilities and
I installed a ISA 3com 3c509b NIC. The thing is configured as non-pnp, coax,
irq10, base adress 0x300h.
I have also tried to get it running on base adress 0x360h and "auto"detect,
on various combinations.
When I boot the Alpha, it reaches runlevel 3, brings up interface lo [OK]
and starts bringing up eth0.... but never ends bringing it up.
It seems to me that the machine is waiting for something instead of just
hanging dead, because when I cold-reset it a forced check of partion things
starts.
I tried to install the nic with linuxconf, the correct module is inserted. I
also tried "insmod 3c509" but with no results.
Pinging localhost works.
Pinging another ip-adress on my network gives the message "network
unreachable".
What I consider as rather strange is that the nic works just fine on a intel
platform running suse-linux.
My question: How to get the 3com 3c509b running on my DEC Alpha? Please give
some detailed information, I will put the results on my knowledge base site.
TIA, dJezzer
