Hi Michal,
Thanks for that, I just got it working on one of my machines, but another of
my linux boxes
still won't allow a 'normal' user to increase their stack limit.
Could you possibly recommend some docs, as although I have spent most of the
day typing
+stack +linux +increase
into Alta Vista, I have not been able to find any doc on this, thanks again
for your help!

Yes. You have to edit /etc/security/limits.conf and this has
__nothing__ to do with Alpha but with how login program, and PAM
libraries, work. At least this worked the last time I tried.
Reading docs before you start with editor is highly recommended even if
a header comment in the aforementioned file gives quite a bit of
information.
