You need the patch for sparse addressing. You can get prebuilt binaries from
here ftp://zenii.linux.org.uk/pub/people/treblig/XFree4.0-linuxalpha . I'm not
sure if I have that on ftp.alphalinux.org yet... Here's the patch that should
fix your problem
