Best luck I've had on a UX was using "tulip" as a module; don't ask
me why it didn't work when built into the kernel... :-\
And I don't think it's the chips that are "'orrid'", often its the
surrounding infrastructure when they are built into mobos that seems
to miss the boat (refer to all the problems with 21143 on MIATA
reported over the years on axp-list, etc). The PCI board versions
usually are better behaved, IMHO.
