Alpha Server Keeps Eating Hard Drives!

Greetings,
	I just got an AlphaServer 800 with a QISP SCSI controller.
	I needed to adda 1gig drive so i can boot the box and
	get to the raid so i ordered a 1 gig IBM ultrastore.  blank
	nothing on it.  i tried to do an install and all went well
	until i did a bad blocks... EVERY BLOCK WAS BAD!  ?!

	now the drive is useless... i cannot even get digital unix
	to see it. it fails on hardware test.  

	what am i doing wrong!?

	do i need to do something before i fdisk?
