I'm testing out the system now. Initial results look promising, in that
the system did not fall over and die with:

dd if=/dev/hda of=/dev/null bs=4096 count=(10000-20000).

I'm dd'ing the whole drive around right now, to see what happens, and then
I've got a few other stress tests to throw at it, but so far it looks
good!
