I also run with that patch applied to 2.4.2-ac12 in my case and at
last no strange surprises happened. For some reasons in my case
symptomps were more subtle what for John but still quite distinct.
It looks like that they are gone.

Probably the best would be to also mail that directly to Alan
<alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> for an immediate inclusion in "ac" series.
