scanmail, rpm

Hi. I need to upgrade scanmail on my Red Hat Linux server. It's in rpm file.
I was trying to upgrade it and install it different ways with no success.
RPM man page in Linux says use rpm -i or -u (I've got no results at all).
Unix man page says use rpm -ihv -uhv (I'm getting those ######## signs) and
it looks like it works. But when I check scanmail file it has the same date
as before so nothing's changed. Can anybody help?
