Just so you know I'm not full of it (at least on this topic), here's the
output from an 'ls -l' on one of my XP-1000's where I'm currently running
a somewhat large calculation:

arrakis(crawdad)% ls -l
-rw-r--r-- 1 crawdad users 5171987924 Mar 23 10:22 pbenzyne.103
-rw-r--r-- 1 crawdad users 178712604 Mar 23 10:22 pbenzyne.104
-rw-r--r-- 1 crawdad users 333840204 Mar 23 10:22 pbenzyne.105
-rw-r--r-- 1 crawdad users 12987260 Mar 23 10:22 pbenzyne.106
-rw-r--r-- 1 crawdad users 870863156 Mar 23 10:22 pbenzyne.107
arrakis(crawdad)%

I think the kernel file-addressing issues present on 32-bit intel systems
aren't applicable to 64-bit alpha Linux, but I'm just a bumblebee here. :)
