You're ignoring media cost. Ecrix loses to DLT and various other media. 
Then again, if you don't use many tapes, they should work.

Also, keep in mind if you want to read someone else's tape or give them
your tape, other drives are more likely to be compatible. May or may not be 
an issue to you.

As to what file systems are supported, that's up to your backup SW.
