True, and true, although I should point out that DAT and Exabyte tapes have a lot shorter life than VXA1 cartridges. Specs on these show nearly 3 times the duty and unload cycles, so this helps a bit.

Also, keep in mind if you want to read someone else's tape or give them
your tape, other drives are more likely to be compatible. May or may not be
an issue to you.
Hell there are problems with that in DAT drives.
Many Seagate, for example, will not read an HP DAT, and vice versa.

As to what file systems are supported, that's up to your backup SW.
