OK. When starting up, I get the following in syslog:
Oct 4 19:33:58 heretic kernel: HWRPB cycle frequency bogus. Estimated
1362855637 Hz
Oct 4 19:33:58 heretic kernel: Calibrating delay loop... 2870.08 BogoMIPS
So I use cycle=366000000 as a parameter i aboot.conf, which gives much saner values.

That'd be great. I'll be more than happy to test them :-)
I hammered the Alphas NIC hard for half an hour (15 GB rx&tx), and it stayed
rock-solid, so it looks good.
