as2100 boot problems

I'm having problems getting an as2100 to boot off of the rh7.1 cd. booting w/ 
'boot dka500 -flags 0' loads the kernel, but hangs and keeps retrying to 
reset. The driver that's being used is ncr53c8xx. The box boots DU just fine, 
and other boxes give the same error, so I'm doubting it's hardware.

I next tried giving 'boot dka500 -flags "ncr53c8xx=tags:0"' and it would hang 
on 'jumping to bootstrap code'. Different flags (root=..., etc) also seem to 
hang it.

Any ideas??
