Gigabit Ethernet for XP1000 / RH 6.1

I have a Compaq XP1000 running RedHat 6.1 and I'm looking for
recommendations on a Gigabit Ethernet adapter that works well with this
configuration.  Does anybody have any experience (good or bad) with a
particular vendor.  I'm leaning towards Alteon (now 3Com I understand).
