??? I thought that is percisely what AMD said at Microprocessor
Forum.
The Hammer is just the Athlon core, only extended to 64-bits on
various registers, and some additional ones. It's still 9-issue,
albeit a deeper pipeline. Hammer will be close to the GHz speed of
Athlon when it is released.
The first Hammer release is not going to be like Intel's first IA-64
release with the lack-luster Itanium. You won't be hearing AMD
going "wait for ('McKinley'-equivalent)." Hammer is the logical
successor to the Athlon, just like the Athlon was to the K6 --
unlike Itanium which still doens't replace the P4 (nor does the P4
really replace the P3 in performance for that matter ;-).

Web site defacements are as much of a national security risk as
inner city kids spray painting. There is nothing of value, and
nothing that can't be fixed with a little re-paint. You'd have
to have the equivalent stupidity of someone parking an F-18 in
downtown LA. Even then, the only damage would be a new scheme!
The US government wants life imprisonment for such "terrorism."
