OK, I think I have the single line boot command working
from MILO:
Using Tony Hoover's suggestion with one small addition...
"boot sda1:boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-6.0 root = /dev/sda1"
became
"boot sda1:/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.14-6.0 root = /dev/sda1"
and it came up -

Now to get it copied over to the HD and auto-booted...
