I also was nervous about the leap to SRM, but I converted my SX running
AlphaBIOS/MILO/RedHat 6.1 to SRM/RedHat 7.1 yesterday ( We had a weather
related impromptu holiday yesterday ) and had no problems at all.
I started by backing up my /home to a separate hard drive, then downloading
the SRM. Flashed my firmware to SRM, then installed 7.1
My old system had a 20 Meg FAT partition at the front of the drive where I
used to keep MILO and the NT loader necessary files. I deleted that
partition when I was in FDISK, then re-created it starting on cyl 2 (
instead of 1). Then I set that up as /boot.
Everything went quite smoothly.
