I don't know how relevant this is to your hardware, but at
least on a UP2000, a USB PCI card works, but the built-in
USB ports don't. According to the fine folks at Harddata,
SRM does not properly initialize the UP2000's built-in
ports, largely in the area of assigning an IRQ to the USB
adapter. There has been some mention that it _might_ be
possible to manually configure them from the SRM command
line. In my case, a 5-port PCI card replaced the SCSI card
I was using for the scanner, and the scanner then used USB,
and both printers could then go to USB, which made me happy.
