Hi folks:
I am trying to install 7.1 on my 164SX, but am getting stuck booting into
MILO. I created the MILO disk using rawrite.exe as well as dd (under bash
on UWIN running in AlphaNT on the 164SX), and I can boot into MILO fine
using either floppy, but do not have any keyboard functionality at the MILO>
prompt. Can't type anything. I checked the physical connections and the
keyboard is fine. (Otherwise this mail would not be typed at all.)
The MILO image came straight from the Alpha RH 7.1 iso file, burned onto a
CD. MILO version is 2.2-17 (Mon Jul 3 12:27:42 CEST 2000) and it says it
was built against Linux 2.2.16-SuSE using compiler gcc version 2.96 20000508
(experimental). As a check, I downloaded MILO version 2.2-17 from
gatekeeper.dec.com, with similar results (only the build date on it was
different from the 7.1 MILO). Tried my old MILO disk from the RH 6.1
distribution, and that loaded fine, and I could look at my filesystem using
MILO commands. However, the 6.1 MILO could not load the kernel on the 7.1
CD -- I did not expect it to do that anyway.
So, what am I missing? Are there any other MILOs for164SX that I could try
that would allow me to install 7.1? BTW, I have AlphaBIOS 5.70 running, and
the system has NT4.0 on it already -- do not want to kill NT yet, so going
to SRM is not an option.
Any help is appreciated.
Rajiv
