You are correct. I'm forgetting the various things I've tried in the
past. Here is what I remember:
1) Installing Redhat 7.1 required the kernel "cha-cha-cha".
The 2.4.3 install kernel partially works, but freezes when you
reboot and bring up the network. So, I popped in an old Redhat 6.2
CD and put a 2.2.x kernel on the machine. Then I rebooted again
and brought up the network to grab the lastest 2.2.x kernel RPM
from the Redhat 7.0 online updates. Reboot again and I'm done.
(All this rebooting makes me feel like I'm running an MS windows
updating extravaganza ;)
2) All the rawhide 2.4.9 kernels that I have tried have failed to
boot on my PC164.
3) I've build 2.4.18 kernels and these run on my PC164s.
