Is there a way to check on CPU fan status and/or CPU temperature
in a UP2000, while Linux is up and running?
A couple of days ago, a CPU fan (one that had been noisy for
several weeks) apparently died. I shut down Linux to reboot,
used SRM to verify everything was halted, and hit the reset
button (to make sure no old state was hanging around). SRM would
not come up, not even to give a blue screen. A check inside the
case (after powering down) showed one CPU fan was stopped, so the
"pwr-good" LED was off. Replacement of the fan brought the
system back up with no difficulty. I'm now wondering for how
long was this fan not working the way it should, and how hot
might the CPU have got during that time.
This experience appears to show the fan status is only checked
during POST, not while Linux is running. Can anyone confirm or
refute that theory?
Is there a way to check fan status and/or CPU temperature while
Linux is up and running?
Thanks.
