It's a potential problem. The API modules were written before the
kernel's i2c really worked on API Alphas, so not much consideration was
given to ensuring that the modules didn't conflict with the
"normal" versions. We had plans to roll the changes back into the
upstream code, but I don't think that was accomplished. I could be wrong
here, though, but it wasn't done before my last days at API (I did start
working on it for 2.4 support, but didn't get far due to other projects).
If you have some time, I'm pretty familiar with the code and can probably
merge the two codebases. I'm just a bit short on extra time right now, so
it may have to wait a bit before I can get to it...
