RE: PC164 sparse mem problem with RedHat rawhide XFree86 4.2.0-7

My video card runs OK, after first reboot, and I see SRM console screen,
then in the next reboots, screen is blank, Now I'm  going to built a
female to female serial cable to try "set console graphics" from serial
console.

I tried to change out my video card and install a SiS 6326.  SRM likes
it, but XFree86 doesn't.  I suspect it is related to the sparse memory
muck on this machine.

Is there any easy fix?

Barring a known fix, would I have better luck trying to use this card
