If SRM can't see the fancy IDE controller you
are using, but can see the onboard IDE controller,
you could do what you mentioned. Stick a small IDE
drive on the onboard controller and make put the
boot partition on that. Then the rest of the partitions
can go on the IDE drive on the unbootable controller.
Works well for SCSI cards that don't show up in SRM.
Now if DBLX (direct boot Linux a.k.a. Linux in the boot
rom) was available, you'd have a Linux kernel instead
of SRM and you could boot off damned near anything.
