OK, here are the DS20L environment specs from the compaq site;
Operating (Tower, Rackmount) 50° to 95° F/10° to 35° C
NOTE: Maximum operating temperature at sea level;
reduce by 1.8° C per 1,000m (1.0° F per 1,000 ft) above sea level.
Non-operating 41° to 122° F/5° to 50° C
Storage (60 days) ?40° to ?151° F/?40 to ?66° C
Rate of change (operating) 20° F/hr/11° C/hr

While I am an absolute advocate of 'cooler is better', the above specs
indicate to me that anything between 10 C and 35 C is acceptable
operating range per the design engineers.
If I was buying one of these things sight unseen, and read this spec,
I'd assume that a room with an ambient temp of 30C would be adequate. If
these things start to barf at ambient temps within the spec'd operating
range, I'd say the published operating range should be changed.
